An off-duty Los Angeles police officer who discharged his gun last week amid a scuffle with teens in Anaheim has been identified as Officer Kevin Ferguson, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Monday.
Ferguson, who works for LAPD’s Hollywood Division, has worked for the department just under four years, said LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar, a department spokeswoman.
The Feb. 21 confrontation arose over ongoing issues with juveniles walking across the officer’s property near Euclid Street and Palais Road, according to Anaheim police. A 13-year-old boy was accused of threatening to shoot the off-duty officer, at which time the officer attempted to detain the boy until Anaheim police arrived. That led to a physical confrontation between the officer and several other juveniles, according to Anaheim police.
At one point, the officer fired off his gun but no one was injured.

The incident prompted a peaceful assembly-turned chaotic protest in Anaheim on Wednesday night that led to the arrest of two dozen people, including six minors, authorities said.
Los Angeles police are conducting an administrative investigation into the off-duty cop’s actions — and any punishment would likely come from the Police Commission by way of a recommendation from Chief Charlie Beck, LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore has said.

Ferguson has been assigned to “non-field duties” in the meantime, said LAPD Officer Mike Lopez, a department spokesman.
Personnel from the Anaheim Police Department are conducting a criminal investigation of the incident.
