At least six people died early this Friday in Sonora, a state in northwestern Mexico, in an armed attack during a minor’s party, the regional prosecutor’s office reported.
According to local media, another 26 people were injured in the attack, which occurs less than two weeks after 11 people were shot to death at a Christmas celebration in the state of Guanajuato (center).
The events occurred when gunmen broke into the celebration of a young woman’s 15th birthday party in the municipality of Cajeme and attacked the alleged “leader of a criminal group” accused of femicide, kidnapping and criminal association, the prosecutor’s office said. of Sonora in a statement.
“This attack killed him and five other people, as well as injured others,” he added without giving further details.
Newspaper versions indicated that the majority of people who were at the celebration were between 14 and 16 years old.
Shootings at parties in remote municipalities have become recurrent in Mexico, where since 2006 more than 420,000 murders have been recorded, the majority related to the fight against drug trafficking and settling scores between criminals, according to the government.
On December 17, gunmen opened fire at a Christmas party held in the municipality of Salvatierra, Guanajuato, leaving 11 dead, aged between 16 and 36.
