Although her name is also mentioned in the process, Lily-Rose Depp does not say a word about her father’s legal dispute with his ex-wife Amber Heard. Now the 23-year-old model explains in an interview why she thought it was better to remain silent.
The domestic violence defamation trial of Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard was one of the most widely exploited in the media earlier this year. Not even the spectacular murder trial of former football player O.J. Simpson could come up with so much drama. And many who even remotely followed the litigation had some opinion that they made public.
One of the few who have not lost a word about the process is Lily-Rose, the daughter of Johnny Depp and his first wife Vanessa Paradise. Because, as the model now reveals in an interview with “Elle”, she “decided not to comment on the latest headlines” from the start. “If it’s something that’s so private and so personal that it suddenly doesn’t feel so personal… I really feel entitled to have my secret garden of thoughts,” the 23-year-old explains her silence on the subject.
“I also think I’m not here to answer for anyone and I feel like for much of my career people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my friends .” She is now “really ready to be defined for the things she does herself.”
In the process in which Depp and Heard accused each other of domestic violence, Lily-Rose Depp’s name had been mentioned several times. Heard had testified that the Hollywood star was said to have been heavily intoxicated in front of his children. After she asked him about it in the presence of the 23-year-old and her younger brother Jack, he threatened her: “If you ever embarrass me in front of my children again, I’ll kill you.”
Lily-Rose Depp was attacked by many of her father’s fans for her silence during the trial. On Instagram, they flooded their posts with demands such as: “Please support your father. No matter what your relationship with him, you know that Amber is not the victim. Support him, please raise your voice.” Others accused the model: “Not a single photo of your father. What kind of person are you?”
