Warnemünde (dpa/mv) – After two difficult years, the 84th Warnemünde Week opens today. Until Sunday next week there will be top performances in sailing in the Baltic Sea resort and also an extensive supporting program. Because of the corona pandemic, the 2020 sailing event had to be canceled; last year it could only take place with a scaled-down program.
For the sailors it starts on Saturday with the big ships at the Mecklenburg Baths Regatta. This is followed by the German Open at the Opti Team Race and the European Cup for 505s, the competition with the highest ranking in terms of sport. The traditional start of the supporting program is the colorful “Niege Ümgang” parade with around 2000 participants, which is organized by many volunteers and associations.
