Potsdam (dpa / mv) – Anklam in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district is the municipality of the year 2022 in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. Mayor Michael Galander (Initiatives for Anklam) accepted the award from the East German Savings Banks Association on Thursday in Potsdam, as announced by the Sparkasse Vorpommern.
The city relies equally on business, tourism and culture, it was praised. An economic highlight of the past few years was the relocation of Continental. The global corporation is researching dandelions for sustainable tire production in Anklam.
A lot has also happened in Anklam in terms of construction: old GDR buildings have been replaced by new buildings in the Hanseatic style, and the Nikolaikirche has become the Ikareum. The municipality also focuses on the Peene river, which is being developed more for tourism as a natural habitat.
The Rostocker Goalballclub e.V. was named club of the year in MV, as announced by the Sparkasse Rostock. Goalball is played blind. It is silent during the game as players have to rely on their hearing. A bell in the ball should help with orientation.
