Wismar (dpa / mv) – After several months of restoration work, Wismar’s St. Nikolai Church is getting its tower crown again today. This marks the end of the work on the church tower. The extensive renovation work on the late Gothic sacred building, which was built in the 15th century as a church for seafarers and fishermen and still shapes the silhouette of the Hanseatic city today, began four years ago. The repair of the tower took a year. Among other things, the historic masonry of the tower gables was restored and the copper roof renewed. According to the city, a special highlight was the acceptance of the crowning of the tower in the summer of last year. In the two large spheres were time capsules with documents, which are now kept in the archives of the World Heritage City.
