Neubrandenburg/Lviv (dpa/mv) – The Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Lviv (Lemberg) are continuing their cooperation despite the problems caused by the Russian attack on Ukraine. Both sides signed a contract at a geoinformatics symposium in Neubrandenburg, as a spokesman for the university announced on Monday. At the meeting, more than 120 participants discussed, among other things, technical innovations and training in the fields of geoinformatics and geodesy (measurement and mapping of the earth’s surface).
The Ukrainian Society for Geodesy and Cartography is also involved in the cooperation. “We want to bring young people from different nations together. They should learn to talk to each other and not shoot at each other,” said the department professor responsible, Wilhelm Heger. The Neubrandenburg geomatics team has been working together with Lviv for around 15 years.
According to the university, 35 Ukrainian students have obtained a German master’s degree so far. 13 young men and women worked in Germany, 11 of them in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. There are currently 12 students from Ukraine enrolled at the university, although one young man went home to fight. Almost 2,200 men and women study more than 30 courses at the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences, including landscape sciences and geomatics.
