Since 2019, the “Woman of the Year” has been chosen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The award next spring is associated with an innovation that is also intended to honor the special achievements of women.
Schwerin (dpa / mv) – According to the state government, 23 proposals have been submitted for the fifth time honored as “Woman of the Year” in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Clubs, associations, private individuals and work colleagues from all regions of the country would have nominated their respective favorites for the award in spring 2023. “These women bring so much warmth into everyday life, into the social sphere or just into the neighborhood that they all deserve an award,” said Justice Minister Jacqueline Bernhardt (left), who is also responsible for equality. The nominees were characterized by above-average professional and voluntary commitment.
The award is scheduled to be presented at a reception to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2023. According to a decision by the state parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the day will be celebrated for the first time as a public holiday in 2023.
“Women do so many things in everyday life that are often not seen and taken into account, women are often the silent heroines for a successful coexistence,” said Wenke Brüdgam, the state commissioner for women and equality. With the honor on Women’s Day, these achievements would be made visible in a special way. Still and far too often, the fact that women are exposed to multiple burdens and often have to master the balancing act between professional and private life is overlooked, Brüdgam continued.
Under her chairmanship, a jury will evaluate the proposals and determine the future winner. Representatives of the State Women’s Council, the state working group for municipal equal opportunities officers, the Association of German Women Entrepreneurs, the DGB, the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Justice are involved.
The title “Woman of the Year” has been awarded in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 2019. So far, Marion Löning, head of the Edith Stein School in Ludwigslust, the entrepreneur Katharina Clausohm from Neverin (Mecklenburg Lake District), the doctor and corona expert Jördis Frommhold from Heiligendamm and the Rügen local politician Nadine Förster have received the award.
