Neustrelitz (dpa/mv) – A man from the Neustrelitz region (Mecklenburg Lake District) fell for so-called love scammers and lost around 90,000 euros . The woman, who posed as the American, told the man during chats and calls that she had made a larger inheritance back home. This went on for a long period of time.
In order for the several million euros to be transferred to Germany, where she is at the moment, she first needs money from the man. The 55-year-old fulfilled this wish up to a sum of 90,000 euros.
The man had been promised repayment and a share of the million dollar inheritance in return. The police repeatedly warn of such tricks known as “love scamming” and other scams. With various scams, fraudsters had stolen around three million euros in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania last year – more than ever before.
Especially the methods of love scammers are considered to be very sophisticated. They sometimes went for months to build some sort of relationship through chats and Skype calls with the victim. Those affected should – if it’s about financial help – listen carefully, it said, and turn on the house bank as soon as possible in order to reverse any possible transfers.
