Möllenhagen (dpa / mv) – A person died in a house fire in Möllenhagen (Mecklenburg Lake District) on Monday night. As a police spokesman said, the fire in the family home was reported just after midnight. When firefighters arrived, flames were already shooting out of one half of the roof.
The homeowners – a 58-year-old woman and her equally old husband – were able to save themselves. During the extinguishing work, firefighters found human remains in the ruins of a carport. It could be an 89-year-old relative who also lived in the house and has been missing since the fire. Final clarity could only result from forensic examinations.
The house burned down to a large extent, the extinguishing work was still ongoing. The damage is estimated at 250,000 euros. The cause of the fire was not yet known. Those who were rescued found shelter in a community building.
