In the spring, arsonists caused millions in damage to many boat sheds in Neubrandenburg. The perpetrators have not yet been found. Now the tenants should find out what costs they will incur.

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – Six months after the series of fires in a boat shed in Neubrandenburg, the owners should find out on Wednesday (5 p.m.) how reconstruction could be possible. The city, as the owner of the water areas, invited the tenants to an information evening at the House of Culture and Education (HKB) in Neubrandenburg. Plans for reconstruction and the distribution of the clearance costs, which were estimated at at least 400,000 euros, are to be discussed.

Since April, around 70 of the 400 boat sheds at the Oberbach facility have been destroyed or badly damaged in three fires. The total damage was estimated at around 1.4 million euros, and the culprit is still being sought. Police are investigating premeditated arson.

For the clearance, the city had to submit a clean-up concept to the environmental authorities so that plastic, fire and asbestos residues as well as other dangerous substances do not drift into the Oberbach and the neighboring Tollensesee. Silt was also dredged out.
