Rostock/Stralsund (dpa/mv) – In the trial of a series of mobile home thefts in the north-east at the Rostock Regional Court, an alleged perpetrator faces a long prison sentence. As a court spokesman said Monday, prosecutors have asked for seven years and three months in prison for aggravated gang theft. The defendant is to answer for ten such cases in 2021. The defense asked for a much shorter sentence. The verdict is to be announced this Tuesday.
The trial against the man had begun in the summer. He and an alleged accomplice are charged with a total of 20 RV thefts. The stolen vehicles, which were brought to Eastern Europe, were worth around 800,000 euros. Most of the crime scenes were in the Stralsund and Greifswald regions.
The two men from Poland were stopped in October 2021 on Autobahn 20 between Lübeck and Rostock when they were traveling east in a stolen mobile home. The trial had started against both men but had been separated due to illness. While the verdict in the first case is due this Tuesday, the trial against the alleged accomplice will continue on December 14th and 16th.
