Groß Varchow (dpa / mv) – Unknowns have devastated almost an entire cemetery in the Mecklenburg Lake District. As a police spokeswoman said on Friday, the tombstones of more than 60 graves were knocked over and the foundations, grave decorations and entire grave sites were damaged. According to previous investigations, there are first indications of suspects, but no detailed information can be given at the moment, said the spokeswoman. Traces of shoes and tips from witnesses would have led the investigators to the suspects.
It is being investigated for disturbing the peace of the dead. The time of the crime was Wednesday evening to Thursday evening, there is no evidence of a political background. The police estimated the damage at around 50,000 euros, the mayor of Möllenhagen Thomas Diener (CDU), to which Groß Varchow belongs, estimated the total damage around twice as high.
