Schwerin (dpa/mv) – The employees of the Schwerin public order office are now wearing bulletproof vests during their operations. Verbal attacks and the willingness to use violence against employees increased – this had recently been noticed at larger events, explained the head of the regulatory department Silvio Horn on Thursday about the decision. The 28 employees in the field service therefore needed more protection.
“Because of the steadily increasing violence against law enforcement officers, protective vests are not only standard equipment for police officers – municipal law enforcement officers are also already equipped with them in many German cities,” said Horn. The new vests, which are said to weigh around 2.2 kilograms, are intended to offer protection against shots and slashing and stabbing attacks.
In addition to distributing tickets, the tasks of the municipal security service also include various checks, for example to ensure compliance with the Youth Protection Act or to combat undeclared work.
