Demmin/Röbel (dpa/mv) – In two collisions with trees in the Mecklenburg Lake District on Monday, a driver was killed and another driver was seriously injured. As the police in Neubrandenburg announced, the fatal accident happened around noon on the state road 271 between Demmin and Utzedel. An 86-year-old driver left the road to the right and hit a tree. Witnesses found the man unconscious and called the emergency services, but they were unable to help the pensioner.
Almost at the same time, a 72-year-old driver also left the road near Kambs south of Röbel. The car crashed into two trees and the crash barriers on the B198. The senior was rescued from the car with serious injuries and taken to a clinic. The total damage from both accidents was estimated at more than 30,000 euros. Both times it is unclear why the drivers suddenly left the lanes.
