Rostock (dpa/mv) – The Ostmecklenburg-Vorpommern Chamber of Crafts has criticized the planned citizens’ allowance. Many middle-income workers would rightly ask whether work is still worthwhile at all, explained the general assembly of the chamber on Saturday in Rostock. The citizen’s income is the wrong signal for the urgently needed securing of skilled workers. The rejection of the draft law on citizen income by the Federal Council and the referral to the mediation committee are a sign that the weaknesses of the law urgently need to be revised.

Binding regulations on resuming employment should not be relaxed and the duration of unemployment should not be politically encouraged. The plenary assembly of the chamber of crafts called for incentives and qualification offers to be used instead to encourage people to take up work.

According to the Chamber of Crafts Ostmecklenburg-Vorpommern, around 12,400 companies belong. Another 7,500 belong to the Schwerin Chamber of Crafts. The year 2022 was particularly difficult for the craftsmen. According to current economic surveys from both chambers of the country, the business climate index has fallen by 28 percentage points compared to the previous year. This means that the value is below that of the crisis year 2009. Chamber President Axel Hauschild called on politicians to support companies more.
