Schwerin (dpa / mv) – In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, tens of thousands of local trains are canceled every year. This emerges from the response of the state government to a small question from the FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament. In 2018 there were more than 22,000 train cancellations, in 2020 more than 47,000, in 2021 a good 37,000 and this year by June more than 23,000.
The numbers are frightening and a sign that there is an acute need for action on the route network in MV, said the parliamentary manager of the FDP parliamentary group, David Wulff, on Thursday. The “Ostsee-Zeitung” had previously reported.
Wulff called on the state government to invest more in local rail passenger transport. “Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is the only federal state in Germany with 300 million euros in reserves for regionalization funds,” said the opposition politician. The options ranged from the reactivation of closed railway lines to more frequent services. A network ticket for MV is also important, according to Wulff.
