Vierow (dpa / mv) – A cargo ship loaded with 2800 tons collided with a pier in the port of Vierow (Western Pomerania-Greifswald). As a spokesman for the water police said on Monday, damage was estimated at around 100,000 euros. Nobody was injured. According to initial findings, the 88-meter-long steel ship has a strong deformation on the bow side, but no leak.

The cause of the accident is still unclear. The ship with seven crew members is flying the flag of the Caribbean state of Antigua and Barbuda and wanted to unload the fertilizer in Vierow, it was said. The skipper was instructed not to leave the port for the time being. An expert should first examine the case.
