Malchow (dpa / mv) – A defective chimney triggered the fire that destroyed a two-family house in Satow Hütte not far from Malchow (Mecklenburg Lake District) on Sunday morning. This was the result of a detailed examination of the ruins by a fire expert, as a police spokesman said on Tuesday. Heat and fire would have started a smoldering fire in the attic early Sunday morning, which ultimately led to the fire that affected the entire roof structure.
The two 63 and 60-year-old residents of the two apartments were able to escape. About 60 firefighters extinguished the fire, but the house was uninhabitable. The residents could be accommodated in other apartments in the Malchow office. Now it is being checked who was responsible for the poor condition of the chimney.
