Rastow (dpa/mv) – A forest fire broke out near the municipality of Rastow south of Schwerin on Friday afternoon in an area contaminated with ammunition. According to a spokeswoman for the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim, there was a 5,000 square meter fire in a pine forest near the village of Pulverhof. The “Schweriner Volkszeitung” had previously reported.
In the meantime, 50 firefighters had been deployed, the spokeswoman said. The number could therefore be reduced thanks to the quick intervention in the evening. The fire doesn’t spread any further. There are still embers, but these cannot be reached because of the ammunition. So-called circular sprinklers – a kind of lawn sprinkler – are used to water the area.
