Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Prospective students have been able to enroll at Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s universities for the admission-free courses since Monday. According to the Ministry of Science in Schwerin, the application phase is already underway at the universities of applied sciences in Neubrandenburg, Stralsund and Wismar. In Neubrandenburg and Stralsund, applications for admission-free courses will be accepted until August 31st, in Wismar until August 15th. Enrollment at universities is done online. Several hundred different courses are offered.
State Secretary Susanne Bowen (SPD) campaigned for students for MV in view of the declining numbers. “The universities and technical colleges offer the students ideal conditions,” she explained. The support ratio is “extraordinarily” good. A big plus is the diverse interlocking of the universities in the north-east. “Numerous start-up companies that have formed in recent years are proof that the courses are practice-oriented and offer prospects.”
According to the Ministry of Science, 6,163 young people enrolled at universities last autumn. According to the State Statistical Office, there were around 6,800 in 2020 and around 6,900 in the two previous years.
