Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – Regardless of the sharp rise in construction and energy costs, almost 100 new apartments are currently being built in the center of Neubrandenburg. A total of more than 31 million euros will be invested in four houses on the last construction sites to the left and right of the shopping mile, as spokesmen for the large housing companies in Neubrandenburg explained on Thursday. The background is the high demand for modern living space in the third largest city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which has around 64,000 inhabitants and is also the district town of the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Both projects are scheduled for completion in autumn 2023. Then the last large gaps between the quarters planned for residential construction in the old town would be built up. The city’s subsidiary, the Neubrandenburger Wohnungsgesellschaft (Neuwoges), laid the foundation stone for three four-storey houses with 58 four-, three- and two-room apartments on Thursday. Costs of more than 17 million euros are expected here, although not all tenders have yet been submitted. Neuwoges has 530 employees and manages around 16,000 apartments, which accounts for around a third of the apartments.

The Neubrandenburg housing association (Neuwoba) is already building a residential and commercial complex with underground parking with a partner on the southern side of the shopping mile. Here alone there are six times more applicants than apartments, said Neuwoba spokesman Rene Gansewig.
