Neustrelitz (dpa/mv) – Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier received the Slovenian President Borut Pahor with military honors in Neustrelitz (Mecklenburg Lake District) on Thursday. In the sunshine and in front of numerous onlookers, both heads of state walked down the military formation on the star-shaped market on a red carpet. It was the last visit of the Slovenian President, who is leaving office after two years.
Pahor then entered the city’s book of honor in the cultural district of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. According to the Office of the Federal President, it was the first ceremonial act of this kind during Steinmeier’s “local time”, in which the Federal President moved his official residence to a smaller town for talks with citizens.
In the afternoon, Steinmeier wanted to visit a biomass cogeneration plant and a state center for renewable energies in Neustrelitz. A discussion round with entrepreneurs on energy security and energy prices was also planned.
Neustrelitz is the fourth city that Steinmeier visits as part of his “Local Time Germany” talk series.
