Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – The judgment of the Neubrandenburg district court in the so-called vigilantism case in Lärz (Mecklenburg Lake District) is final. As a spokesman for the district court said on Tuesday, the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe rejected the appeal by the main perpetrator. The 28-year-old woman must now serve her prison sentence of four years and nine months. She was found guilty of assault, false imprisonment and suspension in April 2022. However, the mother of two remained at liberty until the verdict became final.
At the end of the trial, she confessed to severely beating a neighbor in his apartment building with a crutch, to having forced him into the bathtub with the help of accomplices and to having cut off his hair. On February 28, 2021, the group took the seriously injured man to a locked bunker of an ex-military property in the forest, where he was abandoned when the temperature was below zero. The then 38-year-old barely survived.
The reason given by the woman was that she had found naked pictures of her son on the neighbor’s cell phone. According to the public prosecutor’s office, this does not give anyone the right to take justice into their own hands. Investigations against the neighbors remained without result. The woman’s accomplices received suspended sentences. The trio should pay the victim a total of 6,500 euros in damages.
