Rostock (dpa/mv) – The State Association for Renewable Energy (LEE) MV has described the closure of the rotor blade production of the wind turbine manufacturer Nordex in Rostock as a clear wrong decision. “600 jobs will be lost in Rostock – that’s crazy, because we need the wind turbines right now to advance the energy transition in Germany and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania,” said the association’s chairman Johann-Georg Jaeger on Thursday in Rostock.

Jaeger continued: “In a year or two we will need every rotor blade – from India and Germany and also at higher prices.” The closure of the plant must be a clear appeal to politicians: “Wake up. The companies in the renewable energy sector need clear framework conditions for faster approval processes, otherwise we won’t achieve the energy transition.”

Nordex had already announced in February that it would close blade production in Rostock at the end of June. The company gave the difficult market and competitive environment as well as a shift in demand as reasons. A transfer company was set up for the remaining employees.

The district manager of the IG Metall coast, Daniel Friedrich, had previously emphasized that relocating production to India would not make sense in terms of climate policy, also because the finished wings would have to be transported thousands of kilometers. “If we are now talking about strengthening the energy transition and renewable energies, then we must ensure that jobs are created in Germany again.” The added value must remain in Germany. According to Friedrich, there is no new investor in sight for the site.
