Grevesmühlen/Upahl (dpa/mv) – Those responsible in the Northwest Mecklenburg district are again advising Grevesmühlen on the accommodation of refugees. A similar meeting between district administrator Tino Schomann (CDU), the district committee and eleven mayors of larger cities in the district had already taken place in early February. Once again, more than 100 people demonstrated against the planned refugee accommodation in Upahl in front of the venue in Grevesmühlen before the meeting began. They vented their anger with whistles and chants in the drizzle and wind.
In the morning, around 30 people had expressed their displeasure with the container village for 400 people in front of the state parliament in Schwerin. The construction of the accommodation in the village of 500 has been causing conflict for weeks and has also contributed to a nationwide debate about the burden on the municipalities.
