Ribnitz-Damgarten/Rostock (dpa/mv) – The police are investigating an attack on the car of the AfD candidate for the mayoral election in Rostock, Michael Meister. Unknown people are said to have destroyed two tires on the 48-year-old member of parliament’s car, a police spokeswoman said on Friday. The incident happened on Wednesday in Ribnitz-Damgarten (West Pomerania-Rügen).

A complaint was also filed there. Master lives in Ribnitz-Damgarten. According to the police, it is still being checked whether property damage is being investigated or whether there is a possible political background in connection with the election.

A new head of administration will be appointed in Rostock on November 13th. 17 women and men are allowed to vote, including the AfD member of parliament. The previous incumbent, Claus Ruhe Madsen, moved to Schleswig-Holstein in June as Economics Minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU). Should a runoff election become necessary, this is scheduled for November 27th.
