Schwerin (dpa / mv) – The compromise on the further financing of language day-care centers in Germany is met with criticism in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Minister of Education responsible for day-care centers, Simone Oldenburg (left), complained that the extended funding for language day-care centers announced by the federal government by half a year was far too short. Oldenburg also rejected the planned savings in the budget for the new Kita Quality Act on Monday. “This considerable reduction is a major setback at the expense of the children,” Oldenburg criticized in a statement.
Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) had announced that she would extend the “Language Daycare Centers” program, which has been funded by the federal government since 2016, for additional language development staff until mid-2023. The countries had worked for it. According to Paus, the ministry is providing 109 million euros for the transition. For this purpose, federal funds from the four billion euro budget for the new Kita Quality Act would be “relocated”, it said. Paus emphasized that with the interim solution, she expects the states to continue fanning the language daycare centers from the summer.
