Schwerin (dpa / mv) – The opera director of the Mecklenburg State Theater, Martin Berger, is giving up his post on November 1st. General director Hans-Georg Wegner will take over the management of the opera division, the Staatstheater announced on Tuesday in Schwerin.
Berger had asked for the change because of the double burden of administrative and artistic tasks, but he wants to continue working as a director. “I very much regret it, but I had to realize that I couldn’t reconcile the intensive artistic work with the many operational issues in the long term,” he said.
Wegner wants to build on the artistic work of his predecessor: “His work has shown that progressive music theater can inspire a wide audience”. According to the information, the general director had already been employed as opera director at the German National Theater in Weimar for seven years before moving to Schwerin.
