Malchin (dpa/mv) – The strong thunderstorms that swept over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from Monday to Tuesday only slightly averted the risk of forest fires. As can be seen from the hazard map of the MV state forest institute in Malchin (Mecklenburg Lake District), the hazard level in the Mirow forestry office, which also includes parts of the Müritz National Park, was reduced from five (highest hazard) to three (medium hazard) in the morning.
In the neighboring forest office in Neubrandenburg, there is still a warning level of two after the rain. Level three also applies in the extreme south-west in the Jasnitz forestry office, which includes Dömitz and Ludwigslust.
On the other hand, it hardly rained in the regions from Klütz in Northwest Mecklenburg via Parchim to Gnoien (Rostock district) and in Torgelow in Western Pomerania, where warning level four, i.e. high fire risk, still prevails. On the Baltic Sea between Wismar and Greifswald, fire warning level three remained despite thunderstorms with some storm damage, especially near Loitz (West Pomerania-Greifswald).
