Rostock (dpa/mv) – The federal government took over the former location of the MV shipyards in Rostock-Warnemünde for the Navy on Monday as planned on August 1st. In the future, naval vessels will be serviced and repaired there. The focus is initially on recruiting employees for the naval arsenal, according to the Federal Ministry of Defense. So far there are already around 80 settings.
There is also a lot of cleanup work to be done on the site, because there are several thousand tons of steel there that have already been used for the cruise ship “Global 2”. The aim is for the naval arsenal to be able to repair the first ships of the navy there very quickly.
Up to 500 jobs are to be secured or created there in the relatively short term. Warnemünde is one of the major German naval bases.
