Wuppertal (dpa / lnw) – Hackers are believed to have manipulated an electronic billboard at a station on the Wuppertal suspension railway in such a way that pornographic content could be seen there for a while on Sunday. On Sunday afternoon there were several corresponding references to the alleged hacker attack in the social networks, said the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW) as the owner of the billboards on Monday. “After verification, this turned out to be correct, whereupon the corresponding screen was taken out of service,” it said.

Experts from the municipal utility should now look for the causes of the unauthorized access together with the external service company that operates the system. The advertising system will remain out of operation until the facts are clarified, it was said.

Several media have now reported on the porn glitch, which apparently heated many minds. According to reports, there have already been similar cases in other German cities. As a result, the advertising content for a porn website was on the billboard for about an hour. WSW advertising or information for passengers normally flickers on the screens, which are around two meters high and one meter wide.
