Schwerin (dpa / mv) – The zoo in Schwerin ends the precautionary measures introduced after a bird flu discovery. “All birds are healthy,” said the zoo in the state capital on Wednesday.

In January, a dead white pelican tested positive for the pathogen, prompting those responsible to test all 102 birds. In the meantime, parts of the zoo were closed to contain a possible outbreak. After a second control sample without positive cases, the zoo is now giving the all-clear.

“We are very relieved, our emergency plans took effect quickly and successfully. The cooperation with the Office for Veterinary and Food Control was also extremely good and animal-friendly, for which we would like to express our thanks,” says zoo director Tim Schikora.
