Rostock (dpa / mv) – According to the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus), the current high temperatures in the Baltic Sea and other bodies of water such as Bodden or backwaters can lead to an increase in vibrios. “In rare cases, these bacteria can cause serious infections in people with certain basic risks and an open wound,” said the state office in Rostock on Thursday. Statewide, three Vibrio infections have been reported in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania this year, and a total of six in 2021.
The health authorities in MV have already detected vibrios at various bathing areas. Based on this finding, it must be assumed that these bacteria can occur along the entire Baltic Sea coast, it said. During the bathing season, the Lagus will inform you in a weekly report about any Vibrio infections that may occur.
