Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – The 2022 summer season has begun in the southeast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – after two years of Corona, this time without restrictions. The premiere of the play “The Testament of Aunt Abigail” was celebrated on Friday evening in the Neubrandenburg theater, which was sold out, with minutes of applause. The hall was converted for the “Spuktakel” so that the guests sit at tables directly next to the actors and singers acting as vampires and knife throwers. At least 15 performances are planned by the end of June in the Neubrandenburg theater. Several performances have already sold out, a spokeswoman said, so additional performances are being considered.
Current social conditions were incorporated into the comedy, which Uwe Schwarz directed. It’s about the will of a dead aunt. She invited all the eerie, spooky family members to the reading of the will in a run-down villa in Mecklenburg. However, they should only be allowed to take over the inheritance if they renounce torture games and get peaceful jobs. Due to a crisis, many events are prohibited anyway.
In addition, a number of popular songs such as those by Queen, Schlager and the GDR pioneer song “Der kleine Trompeter” can be heard with a live band, and there is also accompanying horror news on TV. The Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz wants to build on the successful summer spectacle years up to 2019, when all 20 performances at the theater were sold out and there were almost 2800 spectators in total. The Schauspielhaus, the oldest surviving theater building in the northeast, can be used to 100 percent capacity for the first time since 2019.
The Theater und Orchester GmbH is one of four large theaters in the northeast. The summer season also includes the open-air opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet, which will be performed at the Schlossgarten Festival in Neustrelitz from July 1st.
