Güstrow (dpa / mv) – With a so-called church climate forest, the evangelical church district council in the north-east wants to contribute to climate protection. The conversion of one percent of the church’s agricultural area into forest alone would correspond to an area of ??around 250 hectares, according to a statement by the Evangelical Lutheran Church District MV on Sunday. Now 100 hectares of forest should be created. According to the information, this can save six to eight tons of carbon dioxide per hectare every year.
A suitable area is available near Friedland (Mecklenburg Lake District). It is planned to plant 148,000 trees in three years – that’s how many members the Mecklenburg church district currently has.
