Schwerin (dpa/mv) – The extension of the three-phase model for schools developed for the Corona crisis to the current wave of flu had no effect immediately before the start of the Christmas holidays. As the Ministry of Education announced on Thursday, on Wednesday, the last school day of this year in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 493 schools were fully in attendance. That corresponded to a share of 98 percent.
At nine schools there were sometimes alternating lessons due to illness-related shortages of teachers in the upper grades. Only one school had to make use of the regulation for phase three. This allows distance learning for students from grade seven and emergency care for younger students. A similar division in the use of the three phases had also existed before the drastic increase in respiratory diseases.
“Even in this wave of illness, the teachers managed to organize face-to-face classes. I thank you very much for that,” said Minister of Education Simone Oldenburg (left). With the expansion of the phase model, which has been in force since Monday, the school management would have the opportunity to react flexibly to the respective personnel situation. This will also be the case after the Christmas holidays from January 3rd.
