Mountain wilderness, which organizes clean-ups at old installations in the mountains, released a statement expressing regret over the closure of Lauzet bus stop (Le Monetier-les-Bains). It is served by the Zou Regional Line, the LER35, that connects Briancon and Grenoble. Since May 1, the regional bus has not stopped at this location. The association recalls that this stop gave access to all hikes in the Cerces or Thabor mountains, as well as one of the accesses at Refuge du Chardonnet.
Mountain Wilderness believes that decongestion of roads is a key lever in fighting global warming. As the tourist season approaches, it is crucial to preserve existing public transport and develop it. Solutions are being sought all over the mountain region to improve service to practice locations. Le Lauzet is more than a place to stop. It’s a symbol. It is a desire for solutions to enhance our extraordinary nature and ensure its preservation.
The association deemed public transport “a key to meeting the challenge posed by climate change”, and a letter was sent out to elected officials to save the bus stop.
