Young radicals from Etxarri Aranatz (Navarra) celebrate throughout today the continuity of the patron saint festivities with a Day of the Useless against the Civil Guard. The organizers have used a poster with the profile of agents of the Armed Institute burned by the flames and throughout the day they plan to simulate a parade and throw paint and vegetables against a banner in which they have even used the faces of politicians such as the president of UPN, Javier Esparza. UPN and PP have demanded the suspension of this day and the Jucil Civil Guard association has directly demanded the Government of Pedro Sánchez so that the Prosecutor’s Office intervenes and paralyzes this festive day.

Etxarri Aranatz extends its patron saint festivities with a day of activities against the Civil Guard organized by radical youth groups. Organized groups repeat in Etxarri Aranatz acts like the one carried out in Alsasua against the Armed Institute in the so-called Ospa Eguna. The events began this morning in the town square with a sardine and will continue throughout the day.

The Etxarri Aranatz Consistory is governed by EH Bildu and the only councilor who does not belong to this formation is Juan Frommknecht, former mayor of Pamplona and the lawyer who has defended ETA victims in the Autonomous Community. The UPN councilor filed an appeal against the official party program because it had the logo of Sare, the organization that demands the release of ETA prisoners, in addition to including the demonstration of this platform close to EH Bildu as a festive act .

The celebration of the Day of the Useless focused on disqualifying the Civil Guard has also been denounced by the PP of Navarra. Its president, Javier García, has lamented that what happened in Etxarri Aranatz “are not the only acts of humiliation and contempt suffered by the bodies and institutions of the State in Navarra, it is something quite common in the territories where Bildu has majorities”.

The controversy in Etxarri Aranatz was triggered when in Estella the local police had to intervene to prevent an EH Bildu councilor from placing an ikurriña -the official flag of the Basque Country- on the town hall balcony when the rocket was launched with which this Navarrese municipality start your parties. In Estella, the UPN has governed in a minority since the elections on May 28.
