Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – According to the ADAC in NRW, around Corpus Christi (June 16) there is again a risk of traffic jams on the highways in the country. “With the bridge day, a short vacation is more worthwhile than it was last time at Pentecost,” says ADAC traffic expert Roman Suthold. However, the association expects a little fewer traffic jams than last on Father’s Day weekend.
The ADAC predicts the most traffic jams on the Autobahn in NRW for Wednesday afternoon. Then commuters and short vacationers will be on the move again at the same time. On the day before Ascension Day, drivers in North Rhine-Westphalia were stuck in almost 400 kilometers of traffic jams and slow-moving traffic. There were a total of 1,125 traffic jams with a length of 1,996 kilometers and a total duration of almost 619 hours.
“We recommend that you only drive off in the early evening or on Thursday morning. Then you can reach your destination more relaxed and with less loss of time,” says ADAC expert Suthold. Travelers also need patience on Friday and in return traffic on Sunday afternoon.
According to the ADAC, short vacationers must expect delays, especially in the greater Cologne area and in the entire Ruhr area. The highest congestion potential is on the routes towards the German North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts and the Netherlands.
