Cologne (dpa / lnw) – In response to the agreement on biodiversity at the World Nature Summit, the director of the Cologne Zoo, Theo Pagel, demanded action. In Germany, only about six percent of the area is wilderness. When walking through the forest, many people do not realize that this is not the forest that should actually be there, Pagel said on Tuesday on radio station WDR 5. The international community of states had agreed in Montreal, Canada, by 2030 at least 30 percent of the world’s land and sea areas under protection.

Pagel said: “We have changed so much, and now the politicians have to set the appropriate framework”. Everyone can also do something to find a sustainable way of dealing with nature. One example is not to have gravel gardens in front of the house, but to have local flowers wherever possible, so that the local insects also benefit.
