Dortmund (dpa / lnw) – A good six weeks before the top game in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund started preparing for the 2022/23 season. The team of returning coach Edin Terzic, who after various functions at BVB is starting his first preparation as head coach, met on Monday for the start of a two-day performance diagnostics at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science of the TU Dortmund.
However, the Champions League participant still had to do without a few prominent players. The top signings Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, Karim Adeyemi, Salih Özcan and Sebastien Haller were absent at the start and, like the other national players, will not start training until July 8th. As the only newcomer, goalkeeper Alexander Meyer took part in the medical examinations and subsequent tests. There were also youngsters like Bradley Fink, Göktan Gürpüz, Tom Rothe, Lion Semic and Ajax signing Prince Aning, who will increase the squad and will also be present at the first public training session on Wednesday.
The first friendly opponent on July 5th is the Westphalian league club Lüner SV, on July 9th BVB will play at Dynamo Dresden and on July 14th at SC Verl. From July 15th to 23rd the team will travel to the training camp in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. Two friendlies against the two Spanish first division clubs FC Valencia (July 18) and FC Villarreal (July 22) are scheduled there. After the return, there is still a good week before the competitive game begins on July 29 with the first round game in the DFB Cup against TSV 1860 Munich. The Bundesliga season begins for BVB with a home game against Bayer Leverkusen on August 6th.
