Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – A few days before Christmas, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) called for support for lonely and poor people. Everyone can do something so that people don’t feel lonely, Wüst said in the state parliament on Tuesday. “It’s often the small gestures that help.” For example, the Christmas card to the single widow in the neighborhood. Or a plate of cookies in front of the door of single mothers and fathers who would no longer have been able to bake with their children for Christmas.
A call at Christmas to a relative or acquaintance who was not doing well recently could also help. “Right now, in the dark season, in the time before Christmas, loneliness is particularly bad,” said Wüst. “So let’s show our fellow human beings right now that we’re thinking of them.”
