Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lnw) – On Thursday (1:00 p.m.) the DFB Federal Court will hear 1. FC Köln’s appeal on a verdict on incidents by spectators in the Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg on May 7th. As the German Football Association announced on Monday, the DFB sports court had sentenced Cologne to pay a fine of 36,000 euros.
In the home game against Wolfsburg, Cologne supporters had ignited 21 pyros by the time the final whistle went off. Then more than 1000 Cologne spectators stormed onto the lawn after it was clear that the team had qualified for the Conference League. At least four more pyros were burned. “We are deliberately negotiating this case verbally because the focus here is on the issue of storming the pitch and the judgment could also have fundamental significance for other clubs,” explained judge Achim Späth, who was responsible for the appeal hearing.
About the appeals of 1. FC Köln against three further judgments of the DFB sports court because of spectator incidents during the games at 1. FC Union Berlin on April 1st (€60,000 fine), against FSV Mainz 05 on April 9th ??(€18,000) and at VfB Stuttgart on May 14 (117,200 euros), according to its chairman, the DFB Federal Court will decide in written proceedings at a later date, the DFB further announced.
