Delbrück (dpa / lnw) – A duo stole fuel from truck tanks near Paderborn at night and was caught a little later after a chase including an accident. A 28-year-old man and his 20-year-old companion landed in Delbrück on Wednesday night after a short chase with police officers with their van and the stolen goods in a ditch – and arrested, the police reported. The two had previously broken open two truck tank caps and siphoned off fuel. A witness had reported a conspicuous van. Officers found the gas cap broken open at the scene.
During a planned inspection of a suspect van shortly afterwards near the scene of the crime, the driver fled, lost control of his car, skidded and slid into the ditch. The driver and passenger were uninjured. The police discovered 18 canisters of diesel fuel on the loading area.
