Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) – Almost a year and a half after a large-scale raid against vintage car thieves, the trial against one of the alleged perpetrators is scheduled to end today (11.00) in Düsseldorf. The indictment accuses the 32-year-old from Heerlen, Netherlands, of particularly serious gang theft in several cases. The prosecutor has asked for four and a half years in prison for the accused at the district court.
Between October 2019 and February 2021, the accused and accomplice are said to have stolen Porsche, Ford Mustang and old Harley-Davidson motorcycles from underground car parks in Meerbusch, Düsseldorf and Cologne. The stolen vehicles were worth more than half a million euros.
Investigators tracked down the gang with the help of surveillance videos from underground garages. It is said that the thieves spied on the garages with the help of parking space advertisements on the Internet. In the photos of the parking spaces offered, high-priced vintage cars were often included in the picture.
