Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister of Health Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) is campaigning for “the states to proceed as uniformly as possible” when it comes to new corona measures. Early coordination within the Conference of Health Ministers (GMK) should prevent public or media pressure from “individual countries rushing and taking measures on their own,” he demanded.
In a letter sent on Friday to the GMK chairwoman, Saxony-Anhalt’s Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD), which is available to the German Press Agency in Düsseldorf, the CDU politician urges more vigilance in view of the increasing number of infections. The dynamic development is currently encountering a mood in the population that can be described as “pandemic fatigue”.
“Especially in view of this contradiction between possible infectious needs and the mood of the population, in my view, uniform and clear communication is even more important than in earlier phases of the pandemic,” writes Laumann. This requires the best possible coordination between the federal and state governments as well as between the states.
“In order to ensure overall acceptance among the population, the federal states should proceed as uniformly as possible, not least in order to prevent the population from being able to differentiate between the measures taken,” emphasized the minister. He cited train and air transport as examples. Grimm-Benne should therefore initiate a corresponding vote as soon as possible in order to be able to jointly assess the infection situation and the necessary protective measures.
