Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – A prisoner in the open prison is said to have caused an accident while fleeing the police in Düsseldorf. The 28-year-old was noticed by a civil patrol on Autobahn 57 when he overtook it far too quickly, the highway police in Düsseldorf reported on Thursday. The police officers followed with blue lights, which only prompted the man to increase his speed.
He then lost control of his high-performance vehicle on the A46. The car overturned and collided with the car of a 29-year-old woman, who, like the prisoner, was slightly injured. The 28-year-old was arrested. The man did not have a driver’s license. That could have been the reason for his escape, said a police spokesman. The judiciary must decide whether he is threatened with being transferred to the closed prison.
