Dusseldorf (dpa / lnw) – Last year, fewer drugs were manufactured in North Rhine-Westphalia. The state statistics office IT.NRW announced on Monday in Düsseldorf that the production value had fallen by 5 percent compared to 2020 to around 5.9 billion euros. One reason for this may have been the consequences of the corona pandemic. The pharmaceutical company Bayer, based in North Rhine-Westphalia, reported lower demand because people had fewer colds than before due to wearing masks and other corona restrictions. The number includes not only drugs, but also other pharmaceutical products such as patches, reagents and contrast media.
In the field of medical technology, on the other hand, things went uphill: According to the information, the production value of medical, surgical and dental devices in NRW increased by 4.3 percent from 2020 to 2021 to around 1.4 billion euros.
