Erfurt (dpa/th) – The rhinos Stella and Lottie have had a new home in the Erfurt Zoo for a good three weeks – from now on visitors can also see them up close in the rhino house. According to the zoo, after the death of the two previous residents Tayo and Marcita, the house was comprehensively disinfected, the remaining food was disposed of and new brooms, shovels and wheelbarrows were purchased. In the past few weeks, Stella and Lottie have had the opportunity to get to know their surroundings in peace. On Monday, the house was ceremoniously reopened to visitors.
The previous residents died unexpectedly in February, probably from a bacterial infection. The newcomers come from England. When they are sexually mature, a breeding bull should also be brought to Erfurt.
